Open Source Support Engineer (Brighton, UK)

Kineo is a leading e-learning company. We work with large organisations from Google to M&S on improving performance through learning and technology. We also provide market reports and a free knowledge centre.

We are setting up an open source services operation to support the growing demand we have from clients.

Job Description:

We are looking for a technical all-rounder with a customer service mentality to fill this vital role within a small support services team. The role is largely focused on programming, server administration and customer-facing technical support. Competitive salary and benefits, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support service to customers
• PHP programming to include bug fixing, product extensions and product customisation
• Setup and maintain web applications
• Administer, maintain and troubleshoot WAMP and LAMP server environments
• Become expert user of key open source products
• Engage with open source product communities
• Keep up to date with open source product developments and releases
• Technical writing (documentation, tutorials, etc)

Essential skills

• Administration of open source web applications
• Understanding of open source software, development and communities
• Web server monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance
• LAMP and WAMP server setup, configuration and maintenance
• Experienced in PHP programming
• Experienced in MySQL database administration
• Understanding of web technologies (DHTML, Flash, AJAX, etc)
• Excellent customer facing skills
• Strong customer service focus and mentality
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate with all levels of staff from junior to board
• Intelligent approach to problem solving, with proactive, can-do attitude

Desirable skills

• Open source project experience (code, documentation, fixes, etc – please provide examples)
• Experience with web content management systems, learning platforms, customer relationship management or team collaboration tools
• Experience with QA management and automation tools
• Web services programming
• Support desk experience
